SMB LMS

An LMS sized for a small business should cost less than one seat of an enterprise one. OpenSkills is $9.99/month flat for up to 15 employees, with 192 courses already in the catalog — so you’re assigning training, not building it.

Most “SMB” plans are enterprise plans with a discount

Does the catalog ship full, or is it an empty authoring suite? If you have to write the courses, the platform isn’t saving you the expensive part.

Does the price move when you hire? Per-seat billing turns every new hire into a line-item conversation.

How long is setup? If onboarding involves a call, a sandbox, and an implementation plan, it wasn’t built for a 20-person company.

Is there a minimum? A 5-license floor means you pay for 5 whether you need 2 or 5.

OpenSkills Scale TalentLMS Core GoSkills Courses
Price $29.99/mo flat $119/mo $13.91 per license/mo
Cost for 25 people $29.99/mo $119/mo $347.75/mo
Per person $1.20 $4.76 $13.91

TalentLMS gets cheaper per person as you grow toward 40 users — past 25 people it’s the better buy. GoSkills stays flat per person forever. We’re the cheapest option under 25 and we stop there on purpose.

Where a different LMS wins

We’d rather you pick the right tool than churn in month two.

  • You need SCORM or xAPI imports. GoSkills supports both. We don’t.
  • You need SSO, an API, or multi-branch separation for franchises or clients. TalentLMS Core includes all three. We don’t.
  • Your team is over 25 people. Our flat tiers stop at 25. TalentLMS Core covers up to 40 users for $119/mo and is genuinely cheaper there.
  • You want a white-labelled portal. GoSkills Platinum ($15.28 per license/mo) does that. We don’t.
  • You need to host your own regulated, certified curriculum. We give you up to 10 internal courses on Growth and unlimited on Scale, but we’re not a compliance-certification body.

If none of those are dealbreakers, keep reading.

A catalog that ships full

192 courses across 6 industries — tech, retail, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and e-commerce. Role-based learning paths sequence them, so assigning is picking a role rather than assembling a curriculum.

An AI coach for the questions that don’t fit in a course

Every team has one person who quietly answers everyone else’s questions. The coach takes those instead — 750 interactions a month on Growth, 2,000 on Scale. Interactive scenario cards give people something to practise on rather than only watch.

A record you can hand to someone

Assignments, completions, and certificates are logged. Scale adds audit-trail CSV export for when a client, insurer, or auditor asks for evidence.

Specifically for AI upskilling

If the reason you’re shopping is that the team just got AI tools and nobody’s using them, that’s a narrower problem than “we need an LMS” — we’ve written it up in what a generic LMS misses about AI upskilling.

FAQ

What is an SMB LMS?
A learning management system sized and priced for a small or mid-size business — typically under 100 employees, usually with no dedicated L&D staff. The practical difference from an enterprise LMS is that the catalog ships already built and the price doesn't scale per seat.
How much does an SMB LMS cost?
It ranges widely. OpenSkills is $9.99/month flat for up to 15 employees and $29.99/month for up to 25 — that's the whole bill. TalentLMS starts at $119/month for its cheapest paid plan. GoSkills starts at $9.71 per license per month with a 5-license minimum, so a 15-person team lands between $145 and $209/month depending on plan.
Is there a free SMB LMS?
There are free tiers and they're all capped. TalentLMS's free plan covers 5 users and 10 courses. GoSkills' Basic plan is free for 5 licenses with 10 lessons per course. We don't have a permanent free tier — we have a 14-day trial with full access and no credit card, because a capped free tier usually can't tell you whether the platform works for your actual team.
Do we need someone to administer it?
No, but one person should own assigning. Setup is generating an invite link and picking a learning path per role.
How is this different from just buying course subscriptions?
Course access isn't training. An LMS is the assignment, the tracking, and the record — knowing who was asked to do what, who finished, and being able to prove it.
What happens when we grow past 25 employees?
Talk to us before you hit the limit. If flat pricing no longer fits, we'll say so — see the section above on where TalentLMS is the better buy.

Try it with your actual team

Assign one course to three people this week and see whether they finish it. That’s the only benchmark that matters.
